In an effort to bring awareness + build an understanding towards to true peace + unity on Turtle Island, several Anishnabek men have established an open-invite encampment in Awenda park, NW of Barrie

In early April 2012, several Anishnabek men from established a peace and unity camp outside a settler heritage museum in Coldwater ontario, , north of Barrie. The camp was set up in an effort to educate the world about the inter-tribal agreements in existence as well as the nation to nation agreement

Bringing the Torch Home: Olympic Impacts, Local Issues.

In November of 2009, the Olympic torch will start its cross country trip, making dozens of stop in Ontario alone. This article will draw attention to ongoing domestic colonialism and environmental destruction by focussing on resistance groups in Southern Ontario who are, through their direct actions and public campaigning, highlighting how the destructive impacts of the Olympics—gentrification of the DTES in Vancouver, the destruction of native lands in the Callaghan Valley, in Whistler, and along the Sea to Sky Highway, and the harassment and criminalization of activists and indigenous land protectors—are also occurring in communities across Southern Ontario. In Kitchener, members of AW@L have been working in solidarity with community activists from Six Nations to protect land and to fight for decolonization and indigenous sovereignty. In Stratford, the theatre festival has been targeted by SAFE who have drawn connections to the Olympics by showing how the festival committee is an instigator and propagator of local gentrification which targets low and no income communities, and of neoliberal exploitation of art and culture. In Toronto, No One Is Illegal is making strong connections between migrant justice issues in their city and the human rights abuses associated with temporary migrant labour being used for the Olympics. In each of these communities, activists have been targeted by CSIS and other policing and intelligence agencies who have visited and interrogated people at their homes, workplaces, and even pulled them out of university classrooms.
With quotes from Melissa Elliot (Six Nations), and Julian Ichim (SAFE).
